
Mariner Competency
Earn college credits while learning to sail.
This voyage is offered as a partnership between FUEL and the University of New Hampshire (UNG). Students will begin learning fundamental seamanship skills in a framework of personal development and maritime career opportunities.

Sample Day Itinerary
0700 — Wake up
0700–0800 — Deck wash and ship maintenance
0800 — Breakfast with lecture on tides
0900–1100 — Lesson in rope use, anatomy of rope, and knots
1100–1130 — Personal time
1130 — Begin preparations for sailing
1200 — Ship is sailing, personal time
1300 — Lunch is served while sailing
1400–1600 — Sailing lessons
1600–1800 — Personal time
1700 — Ship anchors, sails and rigging are stowed
1830 — Dinner is served
1930 — Small-group reflection
2000 — Swimming under the stars
